Enter a payment date to find the PAYE tax period it falls in. The tax period is set by the date an employee is paid, not the dates they worked.
This calculator runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere. It is a guide, not advice, and does not replace your payroll software's calculation.
How Tax Periods Are Numbered
- The tax year runs from 6 April to the following 5 April.
- Tax week 1 is 6 to 12 April. Each week after runs for seven days from the same weekday as 6 April.
- Tax month 1 is 6 April to 5 May. Each tax month runs from the 6th to the 5th.
- Week 53 is the one or two days left at the end of the year: 5 April, or 4 and 5 April when the tax year contains 29 February.
A pay day in week 53 is an extra pay period, taxed on a week 1 basis. See Week 53: tax on the extra pay day.
