How It Is Worked Out
- The weekly amount is the lower of £123.25 and 80% of average weekly earnings.
- Each full week of sickness is paid at the weekly amount, rounded up to the next penny.
- Days left over are paid at the weekly amount multiplied by the days and divided by the qualifying days in the week, rounded up to the next penny.
- SSP stops after 28 weeks.
Count only qualifying days: the days of the week the employee normally works. Days off sick that fall on other days are not paid. Sickness within eight weeks of an earlier spell links to it and shares its 28 weeks, which this calculator does not track.
